Pokémon card rarity
Every Pokémon card has a symbol at the bottom that shows how rare it is. For each rarity you see here what the symbol means, how many cards there are and which are the most expensive right now.
The 100 most expensive cards →Common
The circle: the most frequent cards. They are usually worth little; the exceptions are mostly old cards.
Uncommon
The diamond: a little less frequent than commons, and usually worth little too.
Rare
The black star. Every booster holds one card of rare or higher.
Holo Rare
A rare with a shiny (holographic) picture. Especially in old sets the holo is worth much more than the regular version.
Double rare
Two black stars: the regular ex cards of Scarlet & Violet.
Ultra Rare
Cards with a picture across the whole card (full art). In Scarlet & Violet they have two silver stars.
Illustration rare
One gold star: a regular Pokémon with artwork across the whole card, since Scarlet & Violet.
Special illustration rare
Two gold stars: ex cards and trainers with artwork across the whole card. Often the most expensive cards of a new set.
Hyper rare
Three gold stars: the gold cards of Scarlet & Violet.
Mega Hyper Rare
A rarity from the Mega Evolution sets (since 2025), with only a few cards per set.
Secret Rare
Cards numbered above the set's card count, such as 113/111. That is what they were called before Scarlet & Violet.
Shiny rare
Pokémon in their shiny colours, mostly from sets such as Hidden Fates, Shining Fates and Paldean Fates.
ACE SPEC Rare
Strong trainer cards of which you may have only one in your deck.
